What is Spirit Up To?

The view that we (humans and the Kosmos) are co-evolving forward to more complex and loving forms guided by some spiritual force is quite a radical notion when compared to the traditional Christian “story” that we have “fallen” from grace. In this section we explore the fruits of this looking through this evolutionary view at some of the unexpected events taking place in the world.

Everything is Spirit
In this short video Ken Wilber explains that everything is spirit and examines the paradox that if that is so, why do we find it so challenging to realize it?
What Stands Between You and Spiritual Experience?
Helen Palmer is a renown spiritual teacher of the Narrative Tradition of the Enneagram. In this presentation she takes us deep into the desert, joining early Christians gazing up into the starry night sky attempting to make meaning of the spirit that moves the heavens. From her extensive research Helen discovered that the nine types of the Enneagram emerged in these early monastic communities as a way of exploring the question, “what stands between me and a spiritual life?”

This video excerpt is from Helen’s full presentation at the Return to the Heart Conference. If you want access to her complete presentation and practice, it is available to Premium Members of Integral Life. Click here.

The Re-emergence of Contemplative Christianity
In this excerpt from their full video conversation, Father Thomas and Cynthia explore their experience of spirit evolving in ways that are often hard to predict. Even in our darkest times, individually or culturally, the notion that spirit is up to something we don’t quite yet understand brings a new understanding to what is unfolding in the world.

In this case, it is the unexpected re-emergence of Christian contemplative method in the 1970’s within Catholic monastic orders. Father Thomas recounts his own journey, as the Chinese invasion of Tibet propels the interior teachings and practice of Tibetan Buddhism to the West.

Don’t miss Father Thomas’s entire offering where he explores what spirit could be up to in the continued emergence of Christianity in the 21st Century. Click Here.

Reflections on Vatican II
In this video, Father Thomas reflects on the emergence of Vatican II as a paramount example of spirit moving in mysterious ways. No one in the Catholic Church could have predicted that Pope John would create the space for such radical reforms in Catholic doctrine. Father Thomas was the Abbot of a major American monastic community during Vatican II. Even he did not see it coming and for a while wondered where this would lead monastic life that had remained unchanged and stable for 1500 years. The Vatican II reforms made it possible for Father Keating and others to open dialogues with leaders in other religious traditions.

The Emergence of Pope Francis in the 21st Century World

One of the surprises of 2015 is the emergence of Pope Francis on the world stage. No expected this loving teacher to challenge the Catholic Church’s positions on subjects like climate change and capitalism. As Richard points out, for the first time the Pope’s encyclical’s are addressed not just to Catholics, but to all the people on the planet.

Thoughts on the Evolutionary View of Spirituality
In this clip, Nicholas Vesey talks about the nature of evolution for him being the evolution of consciousness. He explores the traditional Christian story of the fall of grace as being the very thing than can stop us from feeling united with God.
